Advisors

Role of an Advisor
undefined

An organization’s advisor is frequently the key to its success.  Officers and members of the organization should spend time considering what type of advisor they are searching for.

Advisors must be on campus, therefore temporary replacements should be found for faculty/staff on sabbatical. Advisors should be willing to meet with and assist club leaders with events, goals, troubleshooting and other dynamics or issues affiliated with student leadership. Some clubs will require active advisors, while other clubs may meet or confer with advisors on a more occasional basis.

Most importantly, the club and the advisor(s) should have clear expectations regarding the role. It is the officer’s responsibility to consider the needs of the group and the advisor has the additional ability to support these needs.

Once the advisor is selected, he/she is required to complete the Advisor Agreement form.

Who Are Possible Advisors?
  • Advisor for a Colby College registered student organization/club must be a Colby College staff or faculty member.
  • If assistance is needed in the search for an advisor, the Office of Campus Life Activities staff is happy to help serve as a resource in this process.
Consider the following people:
  • A faculty member in the academic discipline related to the organization.
  • A staff/faculty member with interest in your organization’s mission and actions.
  • A staff member of a campus office (Residence Life, Health Services, College Relations, etc.).
