Please keep in mind:
By choosing to become a party host and serving alcohol at a campus event, you are assuming a large and serious responsibility. As a party host, you are legally responsible for the events that take place at your function. Non-compliance with campus, city, state and federal regulations can result in disciplinary action ranging in severity from housing probation to significant monetary fines and possible jail time.

It is also important to note that unregistered party hosts bear greater liabilites and responsibilities than registered party hosts, and the penalties for unregistered parties are also more serious.  Do not assume that if you have an unregistered party that you are not bound to the same rules and regulations as registered hosts.  You are.

Do not forget:
Weekend events must be registered with the Campus Life office by 4:30 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the event. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made.

Remember:
It is against the law to provide alcohol to anyone who is under 21 years of age or to allow anyone under 21 years of age to consume alcohol at your function!

Party Host Responsibilities:

  • Registering the event with the Campus Life Office.
  • Meeting with security to "check-in" the party prior to serving or opening any alcohol.
  • Checking IDs of all students/persons at the event.
  • Ensuring that only students 21 years of age or older are served/consume alcohol.
  • Ensuring that no open container enter or leave the registered event space.  Any/all alcohol present at your event that is not from the registered source is considered an open container, EVEN IF the party is taking place in an Alfond apartment.
  • Cleaning the party space (in its entirety) immediately following the event if the event is held in a residence hall lounge or a portion or all of the party space is outside.
  • Student hosts are personally responsible for any/all vandalism that takes place in the event space and throughout the residence hall (if vandalism can be tied directly or indirectly to the event).  If there is a sponsoring organization, that organization is responsible for any/all vandalism.  If the person(s) who caused the vandalism are identified, that specific person will be charged for any/all damage caused.
  • Student hosts are personally responsible and liable for serving underage persons.
  • Student hosts are personally responsible and liable for the negligent service of alcohol.
  • Student hosts are personally responsible and liable for the reckless service of alcohol.
  • Student hosts are personally responsible for ensuring that all laws pertaining to the service of alcohol are observed and followed.

  • Student hosts are expected to contact Security if they require assistance with event management.
  • All other responsibilities outlined in party host training.
