Colby Aid
academicsColby works with all students admitted to the College to help them find the means necessary to attend. The College provides information and programs for families of all income levels and offers several financing options for families as well as grants and work-study to qualifying students.

Grants Now Replace Loans
Beginning in 2008-2009 the College will replace loans with grants, allowing students to graduate without debt. Federal student loans will continue to be available to students who elect to borrow to supplement their aid packages. (Click here for more details)

The aid package, plus a calculated contribution from the parent(s) and student, covers the cost of a year at Colby. Each year, aid eligibility is reviewed by the College and may be adjusted to reflect changes in family circumstances and College charges.

How to Apply for Aid
Students apply for aid before they are notified of admission to Colby. A complete aid application for U.S. citizens, dual-U.S. citizens, and permanent residents consists of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS Profile form.

Applicants for admission to the Class of 2012 should complete the 2008-2009 FAFSA, available from high school guidance offices, and send it directly to the processing agency by February 1, 2008. Colby's Federal FAFSA code is 002039.

Each financial aid applicant must also submit the CSS Profile form by February 1. Colby's CSS code number is 3280.

Parents' and students' 2007 tax returns will be requested in April.

Early Decision candidates for the Class of 2012 should send the Colby financial aid application to Colby before November 15, 2007 (fall option) or January 1, 2008 (winter option).

Admitted Early Decision candidates will be asked to submit a 2008-2009 FAFSA in January.

The financial aid application deadline for transfer applicants enrolling in the fall is March 1.

The standard semester payment plan requires payment in August for the first semester and in January for the second semester. Families may choose to spread payments over 8, 9, or 10 months through TuitionPay, a payment plan administered by Sallie Mae. This plan offers life benefit coverage at no cost and requires a small initial fee in addition to payment of College charges.
