academic program
The academic program, with 53 majors and more than 470 courses, remains at the heart of the Colby experience. Seven area requirements ensure a broad foundation of knowledge and encourage students to sample widely from the three divisions--the Natural Sciences, the Social Sciences, and the Humanities.
calendar
Colby's academic year is divided into two semesters separated by a one-month January term during which students are able to focus on a single course, independent project, or internship on campus or anywhere in the world.
majors and minors
By selecting a major and completing its requirements, each student learns in depth the methods and applications of at least one discipline. About one quarter of Colby students choose to complete two majors, and more than one third select at least one minor.

academic facilities
Colby's three libraries contain almost a million books and microtexts, 2,700 periodical subscriptions, and more than 50 electronic databases and indexes. Miller Library is the academic and physical center of the College and houses faculty offices, classrooms, and study space and computers for student use. The Lovejoy Building contains humanities and social sciences classrooms and lecture halls, faculty offices, Information Technology Services, and the largest cluster of computers for student use. A four-building natural science complex faces Lovejoy and houses laboratories, classrooms, sophisticated scientific equipment, and high-end computers. Fine arts instruction takes place in the Bixler Art and Music Center, which includes the extraordinary Colby College Museum of Art. Performing arts facilities, including the Strider Theater, are located in the Runnals Building.
