2006 Colby Night Dinner

On Friday, October 6, the Colby C Club will present its 2006 awards at the 103rd Colby Night Dinner. The Carl Nelson award will go to Michel Picher '67, and the C Club Person of the Year award to Debbie Aitken. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., with the Ludy '21 and Pacy Levine '27 Memorial Reception on the Page Commons balcony and dinner in the Page Commons Room at 6 p.m.

The Carl Nelson Award is given to a Colby person for achievement in the athletic world. The award was first presented in 1988 to Carl Nelson, the incomparable and innovative Colby athletic trainer who was considered one of the top professionals in his field. Picher, who resides in Quebec, is a nationally recognized arbitrator whose sports clients include the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball as well as Canadian national teams. Picher played ice hockey and lacrosse and competed in sailing at Colby.

Debbie Aitken is the 2006 C Club Person of the Year. Aitken, who has coached women’s cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track, is being honored for her extraordinary success during her 21-year career as a head coach and for the tremendous impact she has had on the lives of so many women who have participated in these programs. The Person of the Year award is presented annually to a member (or members) of the Colby family, not necessarily alumni, who have shown dedication and support to Colby athletics by his or her service to the College.

Outstanding achievements by student athletes from the 2005-06 season also will be recognized. It looks to be another remarkable evening—a celebration of the athletic, academic, and civic accomplishments of not only the exceptional athletes but also alumni and friends.

The dinner brings together the Colby athletics family—past and present—to celebrate many and varied accomplishments. From the awards presentation to the acceptance remarks to the pre-dinner reception, the evening always leaves a lasting impact on the students, parents, alumni, and faculty in attendance. In addition, for many student athletes in the audience, the event will be their first introduction to the network of alumni and friends—representing all Colby sports—who are united by the Colby C Club.
