Baseball
With many of last season’s top starters returning, Colby’s baseball team has a strong nucleus to prepare for the 2007 campaign. The Mules won 10 games in 2006 and were competitive in nearly all of their games. Andy Carr ’07 returns at third base after leading the Mules in batting average (.408), total hits (49), doubles (13), homers (4), RBI (37), and slugging percentage (.633). Carr earned NESCAC firstteam all-conference honors and will be a captain for the second straight season.

Men's Crew
With the graduation of only two seniors and the return of many key first-year rowers who competed in both the varsity and second varsity men’s crew last spring, the team is looking forward to continued success in the 2006-07 season. The 2005-06 season carried with it the momentum from the trip to the Henley Royal Regatta in 2005, where rowers became the first Colby men’s crew to win an international race.

Men's Lacrosse
The entire men’s lacrosse offense returns this spring, and the Mules have high expectations. After many close games in 2006, and with a much-improved squad, the 2007 team looks to be in the hunt for a NESCAC playoff berth. Colby will be led on attack by senior captain Ryan Scott, who scored 35 goals and had three assists in 2006. Senior Rory Murphy had 23 goals and 13 assists, and NESCAC Rookie of the Year Caddy Brooks tied for the team lead in points with 24 goals and 14 assists.

Women's Lacrosse
Losing only three seniors to graduation, women’s lacrosse expects to continue to make its mark in 2007 as one of the top NESCAC squads and as a top-10 nationally-ranked team. The Mules have goals of breaking into the top five nationally and into the top two in the conference. Three of Colby’s top four goal scorers from 2006 return: tri-captain Allie Libby ’07, Kate Sheridan ’09, and Lauren Barrett ’08. All three bring finesse, accurate shooting power, and speed.

Men's Outdoor Track and Field
The loss of All-American Jason Foster ’06, who took fourth at the NCAA Division III Championships in the weight throw, will be a blow to the men’s outdoor track and field team. However, head coach Jared Beers ’01 will have some talent to work with this spring. Madison Gouzie ’08 was third in the 400 hurdles, and Jeff Alden ’07 placed fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase at last year’s New England Division III Championships.

Women's Outdoor Track and Field
The women’s outdoor track and field team placed seventh at the NESCAC
Championships and 10th at the New England Division III Championships last year. Anna King ’08, who made the NCAA Division III Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, returns as does Melissa Cianciolo ’07, who placed second in the javelin throw at the NESCAC Championships. Liz Petit ’08 (1,500 meters), Anna Bruno ’07 (pole vault) Erin Beasley ’09 (sprints), and Devan RitzPatrick ’09 (sprints) also return for head coach Deb Aitken.

Softball
In softball, Colby will be led by captains Amy Palmer ’07, Miki Starr ’07, Lindsey Toomey ’07, and Essie Widlanski ’07 in the 2007 season. All four players have the qualities necessary to be outstanding leaders. Blending the returning players with incoming first-year players is sometimes difficult, but these four captains are up to the challenge

Men's Tennis
With just one senior lost to graduation, a healthy and motivated men’s tennis squad, and one of the best and biggest first-year classes that men’s tennis has had, the future appears bright for the Mules.

Women's Tennis
In the 2006 women’s spring tennis season Allison Dunn ’07 went to the NCAA Division III Tournament for singles play. Previously she earned the right to play at the national tourney in doubles action. With a 68-38 overall record in singles and doubles play, she has an outside chance at 100 career victories.
