Men’s hockey had the best record in the NESCAC during the regular season and earned the right to host the conference semifinal round and championship game for the first time in program history. The Mules won their home quarterfinal game in front of a big crowd to secure the right to host the NESCAC Final Four. In a packed Alfond Rink, Colby lost a tough 2-1 game to eventual champion Trinity in the semifinals. Defenseman Arthur Fritch ’08 and Forward T.J. Kelley ’08 each earned first team All-American honors. Fritch, Kelley, and teammates Josh Reber ’08 and Cody McKinney ’11 were all named to the New England Hockey Writers All-Star Team. Kelly also was named the NESCAC Player of the Year and earned conference first team honors with Fritch and Reber. Head coach Jim Tortorella earned Coach of the Year honors from the NESCAC and the New England Hockey Writers.

Women’s hockey made the NESCAC championship game after a 3-2 overtime win at Middlebury in a league semifinal game. Goalie Lacey Brown ’09 stopped 46 shots in the win against Middlebury, and Liz Osgood ’11 had the dramatic overtime goal. The Mules eventually fell to Amherst in the title game. Becky Julian ’09 earned NESCAC second team honors after leading Colby in scoring.

First-year men’s alpine skier Vincent Lebrun-Fortin wasted no time in showing he will be a national contender. He was a first team All-American after placing fifth in the slalom at the NCAA Skiing Championships and earned second team honors for placing seventh in the giant slalom. Lebrun-Fortin was an All-East first team pick and was named the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) Rookie of the Year. Lebrun-Fortin earned his first EISA victory by taking the slalom competition at the Williams Ski Carnival. Josh Kernan ’10 was 14th in both the slalom and giant slalom at the NCAA meet and helped the Mules place fifth in the slalom despite being one skier short of a full team.
 
The Nordic men’s ski team had the best year in program history after qualifying a full team (at least three skiers) to the NCAA Skiing Championships for the first time. The Mules were the top Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) team, placed sixth overall in the 10-kilometer freestyle event at nationals, and took 12th in the 20-kilometer classical. Nick Kline ’08, Wyatt Fereday ’11, and Silas Gill ’09 made the NCAA meet, while Kline and Fereday each earned second team All-East honors. Head coach Tracey Cote was named the EISA Coach of the Year for the second straight season after leading the Mules to four wins, three seconds, three thirds, and two fourths in 12 EISA ski carnival races. 

Women’s swimming placed 16th in NCAA Division III and was in the top 20 at the national meet for the fifth straight year. Kelly Norsworthy ’08 finished off an illustrious career with her seventh individual All-American honor (places 1 to 8) by taking fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke. She was a four-time All-American in the 100 breaststroke. Kelsey Potdevin ’09, Maddie Given ’08, Chelsea Heneghan ’11, and Norsworthy earned All-American honors by placing eighth in the 400 medley relay. Norsworthy won the 50 and 100 breaststroke races at the NESCAC Championships, and Potdevin captured the 50 backstroke. The Mules had a 5-4 overall record and won their fifth straight CBB title.

Women’s indoor track and field had four All-Americans after the distance medley relay team of Liz Petit ’08, Laura Pomponi ’08, Emma Linhard ’11, and Anna King ’08 placed seventh at the NCAA Division III meet. The Colby women had five victories at the Maine State meet, including victories from King in the mile and 3,000 meters. Petit won the 1,000 meters, while Linhard captured the 800 meters. Linhard, Amanda Burgess ’10, Mandy Ivey ’10, and Heather MacDonald ’10 joined forces to win the 3,200 relay at the state meet. Cassi Knight ’10 was strong in the distance races and placed second in the 5,000 meters at the New England Division III meet.

Chris DeRoo ’09 won the New England Division III title in the 600 meters and set a school record for the men’s indoor track and field team. DeRoo broke the school record set the previous weekend by teammate Dan Moss ’08. Moss also placed third in the 800 meters at the New England Division III meet and earned All-New England honors for placing sixth in the Open New England 800 meters. In the Maine State meet, Bob Glotfelty ’08 defended his title in the 1,000 meters, and Moss was a winner in the 800 meters. Glotfelty, DeRoo, Ben Ossoff ’10, and Moss won the 3,200 relay state title.
 

Men’s basketball player Adam Choice ’10 was the Maine State Player of the Year as a sophomore after finishing second in the NESCAC in scoring. He also earned second team all-conference honors. The Mules finished the season at 13-12 and made the NESCAC playoffs before falling to Amherst in a quarterfinal game. First-year forward Michael Russell ’11 earned Maine State All-Rookie honors.

Women’s basketball player Katie McCabe ’08 graduated as the program’s fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,241 points, and she added 729 rebounds. McCabe earned All-Northeast Region honors, was on the NESCAC all-conference second team, and made the Maine State first team. The basketball coaches award will now be called the “Katie McCabe Leadership Award.” Alison Cappelloni ’10 earned Maine second team honors, and Julianne Kowalski ’11 was on the Maine All-Rookie squad. Colby finished the season at 9-16 and made the NESCAC playoffs.
 

Women’s squash finished 14th in the country and earned the fourth seed in the NESCAC playoffs. The Mules made the semifinal round of the NESCAC Championships after taking a quarterfinal win over Hamilton.

Men’s squash finished the season ranked 25th nationally and won the Conroy Division (teams ranked 25 to 32) at the national team championships.
 

Men’s swimming won a fourth straight CBB title and finished the dual-meet season with a 5-4 record. Kevin Smith ’10 set three distance freestyle records, and Evan Mullin ’08 was solid in the shorter freestyle sprints. Mullin earned the men’s swimming and diving team’s MVP award in each of his last three years and holds school records in the 200 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 medley relay. At the spring sports banquet he was honored with the Norman White Award for inspirational leadership and sportsmanship.

Women’s Nordic skier Kathleen Maynard ’09 was the top Colby skier in all 12 races this past season. Maynard placed eighth in the 10-kilometer classical and was 15th in the 5K freestyle technique at the Eastern meet.
 

Women’s alpine skier Dana Breakstone ’10 made the NCAA Skiing Championships for the first time. She also placed 14th in the giant slalom at the Eastern Championships.
