Message from C Club President Alex Wilson ’73

Dear C Club Member: Greetings from Mayflower Hill. I hope you and your loved ones enjoy a happy and healthy holiday season. Thank you for your membership in the C Club. Your dues make possible the various activities and programs we sponsor in support of Colby’s athletic program. In our fall newsletter, I provided a recap of our recent membership survey, which identified a number of issues. Two issues that many respondents agreed upon were a desire for more timely information about Colby’s varsity athletic teams and the desire for the newsletter to be distributed via e-mail. A series of meetings took place between C Club representatives and College staff members, and the College will begin distributing the C Club newsletter via e-mail. In addition, Colby will issue interim sports bulletins via e-mail to C Club members, with links to more information on Colby’s Web site. These bulletins will provide notice of upcoming C Club events; up-to-date scores for important games, meets, and matches; and other items of interest to athletic fans. For a number of reasons, moving to an e-newsletter makes a lot of sense. Most C Club members have e-mail, including many of our older members. E-mail is the preferred personal communication medium for many alumni, especially younger alumni, who change addresses often during their initial years after Colby. E-mailing the newsletter is also in line with Colby’s efforts to become more “green” in all its practices, as it would reduce the amount of paper and ink used by the College. The elimination of the printing and mailing costs associated with the newsletter would reduce the C Club’s annual expenses greatly, and we could use those savings to support other C Club activities. For the immediate future, the C Club newsletter will be published and distributed in both paper and e-mail. In time we most likely will move to an e-mail-only format. All current C Club members whose e-mail addresses are on file in the Alumni Relations Office will receive the C Club’s e-newsletter.
