Marc Gilbertson '91 became the first Colby skier to make the Winter Olympic Games when he participated in the Nagano Games in 1998.
Gilbertson was an All-East skier all four years at Colby and qualified for the NCAA Division I Championships in 1990 and 1991. Sean Skaling '91 and Brian Carlson '94 were other top skiers during the early 1990s. Chris Cogbill '00 qualified for the NCAA Division I nationals during his time at Colby.
Men's nordic skiing started as a varsity program in 1986-87 and won three straight NCAA Division II titles from 1990 to 1992.
The women's nordic ski team started as a varsity program during the 1986-87 academic year and saw immediate success. The Mules won an NCAA Division II championship in 1988-89 and captured four straight Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) titles from 1987 to 1991.
Hilary Greene '91, Galen Lauman '90, and Amy Shedd '90 were among some of the top skiers for the nordic team. Jenny Lane '98 qualified for the NCAA Division I nationals in Bozeman, Montana, during her career at Colby.
