Colby Squash History

Men's Squash
Men's squash started as a varsity sport in 1971 and consistently remains in the top 25 of all squads in the country.

Colby has been ranked as high as 10th in the national poll since the 1988-89 season. However, 1997-98 may have been the best season, when the Mules were ranked 11th, went 18-6, were named the Most Improved Team in the Country, and won the CBB title.

The 1998-99 team entered two teams in the five-man national tourney for the first time. Colby finished the 2002-03 season ranked 18th in the country.

Women's Squash
Current head coach Sakhi Khan has the women's squash team closing in on a top 10 ranking among all varsity squash teams in the country.

The Mules finished the 2003 season with their best national ranking ever at 11th. Colby finished 13th in the country after the 2001-02 season and has been in the top 15 the past three years.

Women's squash started as a varsity sport in 1979, and the team struggled in the first six or seven seasons. The Mules steadily began to improve their record after 1985 and now are among the top squash squads in the country.

Kate LaVigne '95 was the first Colby women's player to earn All-America honors. Margaret Igoe '92, Meredith Johnson '92, and Christy O'Rourke '92 all were national tourney qualifiers on two occasions each over the three years from 1990 to 1992.
