Alumni Council Executive Committee Meeting Minutes, June 9, 2007

Introductions and Welcome—Hope Palmer Bramhall ’56
Hope opened the meeting and welcomed the Alumni Council members. She also announced the names of the members who will be serving as new chairs of the committees.

Outgoing chairs were recognized for their service.

Committee Reports/Updates

Alumni Fund—Jessica D’Ercole Stanton ’92
Jess reported that the Annual Fund is up almost 20 percent over this time last year. She went on to add that on the participation front we are about 40 percent of our 53 percent goal. The Alumni Council is at 87 percent participation, but that should reach 100 percent.

Admissions and Financial Aid—Jan Wood Parsons ’65
Jan shared some information in addition to the news Bro Adams covered in his address. She noted that we received 103 legacy applications, which is an increase over the number received in previous years. She also reported on the average scores of the enrolled students on the SAT and ACT tests. Jan went on to report they have held several successful retention events across the country. She highlighted a project Janice Kassman is involved with in the Washington, D.C., area.

Athletics —Chris Vickers ’87
Chris shared that the committee is focused on three areas—fund raising, the C Club, and mentoring. He proceeded to give an update on the efforts the committee is doing in each of these areas.

Awards—Chris Sullivan ’97
Chris commented that the culmination of the committee’s activity for this year was highlighted at the Awards Banquet, when they handed out six Colby Brick Awards. Recipients this year are Barbara Bone Leavitt ’52, Peter Merrill ’57, Allan van Gestel ’57, Lou Richardson ’67, Margaret Felton Viens ’77, and Jessica D’Ercole Stanton ’92.

Career Services—Patricia Whittemore Jenkins ’67/David Fernandez ’89
Patty reported that the committee has supported alumni networking events this year in the Boston, Portland, and New York areas. She noted this fall the committee is supporting a new initiative, which is the first annual Career Networking and Leadership Weekend, which will be held September 28-29 here on campus. David informed the council that they are going to be called on to help staff the panels for this weekend.

Hope added that there will not be a meeting in October. Instead, there will be a meeting during the Leadership Weekend.

Nominating—Peter Merrill ’57
Peter reported on the work of the committee over the last few months, which included extending the term of one alumni trustee, appointing a new alumni trustee, and selecting a young alumni trustee.
