 Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson will receive the 2011 Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award Oct. 16. The award is given annually to a journalist displaying courage is journalism. Nelson started NPR’s Kabul bureau and more recently covered the Arab Spring from Cairo and the fall of Muammar Qaddafi from Libya. More »
 Fatima Burnad is recognized as a national leader in India’s social movements. Her battle for human rights for the Dalit people (“Untouchables”) of India has led to more than one incarceration—and to her being named Colby’s 2011 Oak Human Rights Fellow. More »
 Plans have resumed for a new science building on the Colby Green to house the Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics, and Psychology departments.  The fifth annual Hill ’n the ’Ville music festival—designed to bring students together with people from greater Waterville for live music, food, and fun—featured three musical acts and a spirit of collaboration, Dash Wasserman ’12 reports for the Echo.
 Students, faculty, and staff marked the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with on-campus events aimed at honoring victims and eliciting questions. A student-organized event attracted hundreds of students to the flagpole on the night of Sept. 11 (photo), and a faculty-led event kicked off a year-long consideration of terrorism. More »
