What is Senior Pledge?

Senior Pledge Program
Started at Colby in 1984-85, the Senior Pledge program is a long-standing tradition of seniors giving back to Colby in recognition of their outstanding educational experience. It also is an opportunity to demonstrate social responsibility as we embark on our careers and lives after graduation.

Senior Pledge contributions are treated as Alumni Fund gifts. The program offers opportunities for the senior class to learn how the Alumni Fund helps the College, to begin giving back to the College, and to strengthen class identity by collectively reaching dollar and participation goals.

The Importance of the Alumni Fund
The Alumni Fund comprises annual unrestricted contributions from alumni and members of the senior class. It provides immediate budget relief for scholarships, faculty salaries, libraries, and campus maintenance, and it supports athletics, student clubs, lectures, the arts, and other activities.

Our participation in the Alumni Fund through the Senior Pledge program and in future years as alumni/nae is extremely important. High participation is looked upon favorably by college review publications when ranking institutions and by foundations when awarding grants critical to the College.

Alumni Fund gifts, both large and small, have a significant impact. Collectively, Alumni Fund donors will make the single largest gift to the campaign. Our commitment to Senior Pledge and, starting next year, the Alumni Fund ultimately will help the participation rate and the total dollars raised by the Alumni Fund, and it will strengthen the value of our Colby degrees.

Gifts in Someone's Honor

We are encouraged to make either a one-year gift or a four-year pledge to this unrestricted fund. Gifts can be made in honor of a special friend, professor, coach, or family member.

Four-Year Pledge Opportunities
We can make multi-year pledges of up to four years, the first payment being due during senior year. Each year more than one third of all Senior Pledge donors elect to make a multi-year pledge, confirming our support of the Alumni Fund over the next several years. There are several suggested giving levels outlined on the pledge card, but donors can make commitments of any amount.

Scheduled Pledge Payments
Because the College recognizes that individual financial circumstances vary, it is important to know that payments can be made in various installments. We can elect for Colby to automatically make credit card charges or send scheduled payment reminders.
