WATERVILLE, Maine — Colby College sprinter Dom Kone (Bucksport/Bucksport, Maine), who won the 100-meter dash and the 200 meters at Fitchburg State University on Saturday, was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Performer of the Week on Monday.
Kone is off a to a fine start to the outdoor season after winning the national title in the 60-meter dash during the indoor season. He was the fastest sprinter in the country during the indoor season the past two years.
Kone won the 100 dash in 10.86 at Fitchburg State’s Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational and took the 200 with a 22.52. In the heat of Florida, Kone had better times a few weeks ago in the 100 (10.83) and 200 (22.07) during the team’s spring break trip.
Kone is the two-time defending NESCAC champion in the 100 dash. He also ran the anchor leg for the Mules’ 400 relay league championship foursome in 2011.
