O'Donnell breaks scoring record in victory

WATERVILLE, MAINE --

Senior forward Christine O'Donnell (Salem/Salem, Mass.) became Colby College's all-time leading scorer in women's soccer history and senior midfielder Julie Brown (Montclair/Montclair, N.J.) scored in overtime to lead the Mules to a 3-2 win over University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday.

O'Donnell, a captain, has 34 goals and eight assists for 76 career points. She needed two points heading into the game to break the record of 74 points set by Kim Waldron '99. O'Donnell got the record quickly when she scored about five minutes into the contest off an assist from sophomore Kathryn Austgen (Brebeuf Jesuit Prep/Carmel, Ind.).

Maine-Farmington (3-1) went ahead 2-1 on two straight long, hard shots by Megan Woodcock (Farmington, Maine). She got the first goal to the upper right corner with 14 minutes left to halftime. Woodcock then ripped a shot into the upper left corner with about five minutes to intermission.

Colby first-year forward Kristin Schmidt (Lawrence Academy/Littleton, Mass.) made it 2-2 with just 33 seconds left to halftime. Schmidt scored off a rebound off an initial save by Farmington goalkeeper Alyson Pontbriand (Auburn, Maine).

After a scoreless second half, Brown scored 6:09 into overtime when her high shot from the right side got over Pontbriand and into the left corner of the net. O'Donnell got the assist when she pushed the ball back to Brown for the shot. O'Donnell has three goals and two assists in Colby's first three games.

The Mules (2-1) will play at Trinity College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
