Men's soccer beats USM in overtime
GORHAM, MAINE --
The Colby College men's soccer team improved to 3-0 in non-conference games as senior midfielder Jamie Lue (Westminster School/Kingston, Jamaica) scored in overtime to help the Mules to a 2-1 victory over University of Southern Maine on Wednesday.
Lue scored unassisted with just 10 seconds left in the first overtime session as Colby improved to 4-2 overall. Lue got the rebound off a shot that had hit the post by first-year forward Bobby Abendroth (BB&N/Natick, Mass.).
USM (3-4-1) led 1-0 after Andy Budelman scored 31:32 into the first half. The Mules quickly got the equalizer on a corner kick when sophomore midfielder Trevor McWilliams (Milbrook School/Millbrook, N.Y.) scored off assists from senior Zach Shull (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Ryan Boccuzzi (E.O. Smith/Storrs, Conn.).
Senior Andrew Danzinger (Mercerburg/Frederick, Md.) played the first half in goal for Colby and made two saves. Sophomore Brian Davidson (Loomis Chaffee/Needham, Mass.) went the rest of the way and also made two stops.
Colby plays host to NESCAC rivals Wesleyan on Saturday and Williams on Sunday. Both games begin at 1:30 p.m.
