Colby volleyball wins State of Maine title
GORHAM, Maine --
Paced by junior setter Kim Prescott's 25 assists and five service aces, top-seeded Colby College successfully defended their State of Maine volleyball title by dispatching the third-seeded University of New England Nor'easters 3-0 in the championship match Saturday afternoon at the University of Southern Maine's Warren G. Hill Gymnasium.
Colby (23-9), which defeated fourth-seeded Southern Maine in the morning's opening semifinal match, 3-0, beat UNE by scores of 30-13, 30-18, and 30-20 to take the title.
Junior middle hitter Alyssa Henley had a strong title match for Colby with 11 kills and two blocks. Junior middle blocker Abbey Stella chipped in six kills and two blocks, while Liz Wyckoff had three blocks in one game.
Stella made the all-tournament team along with senior Laurel Burnham, who had 11 assists and nine digs against USM, and Jennifer Radcliffe (7 kills vs. USM).
In the USM match, Megan Devlin, Henley and Jo Schroeder all had six kills.
