Middlebury volleyball tops Colby
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. --
For the second time this season, Colby College and Middlebury College played a five-game match in volleyball. This time it was Middlebury with the victory.
Middlebury, the seventh seed, took a 30-27, 18-30, 26-30, 30-28, 16-14 victory over second-seeded Colby in a New England Small College Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal at Williams College on Friday night. Colby had taken a 3-2 match win over the Panthers earlier this season.
The Mules end their season at 23-10. Middlebury will play an 11 a.m. semifinal game Saturday.
Johanna Schroeder (Salmon/Salmon, Idaho) led Colby with 19 kills. Cait Cleaver (Unionville/Kennett Square, Pa.) had 16 kills and five blocks (4 solo), Alyssa Henley (St. George's/Spokane, Wash.) had 14 kills and Abbey Stella (Westfield/Westfield, Mass.) finished with 10 kills.
Junior setter Kimberly Prescott (Los Alamitos/Buena Park, Calif.) had 58 assists and senior Laurel Burnham (Gibraltar/Baileys Harbor, Wis.) had a team-high 15 digs in her final match.
