Amherst men's basketball tops Mules
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Andrew Schiel (Conestoga/Wayne, Pa.) finished with 27 points and eight rebounds to pace 12th-ranked Amherst College to a 92-62 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Schiel was 11-for-15 from the field and had 14 points and seven rebounds at halftime for Amherst (11-2, 1-0). John Donovan (Holmdel/Holmdel, N.J.) had 15 points, Steve Zieja (Hopkins Academy/Hadley, Mass.) had 13 points and six rebounds, and Ryan Faulkner (Lebanon/Lebanon, N.H.) had nine assists.
Kevin Crosman (Morse/Bath, Maine) led Colby with 22 points and Andrew Jenkins (Gorham/Gorham, Maine) came off the bench and had 11 points. Jared Cushman (Cony/Augusta, Maine) had five assists.
The game was close for the first 10 minutes, with Amherst leading just 22-17 at one point. However, the winners outscored the Mules 24-9 the rest of the half to take a 47-26 halftime lead.
Colby (4-8, 0-1) will play host to Trinity on Saturday at 3 p.m. in another league game. Amherst continues its road trip at Bowdoin College on Saturday.
