Colby women's soccer stops UNE
WATERVILLE, MAINE --
Senior forward Christine O'Donnell (Salem/Salem, Mass.) had three goals to help the Colby College women's soccer team fight back from two deficits for a 4-2 non-conference win Thursday against University of New England.
O'Donnell has 95 career points on 43 goals and nine assists. She has 12 goals and three assists this season for 27 points.
UNE (5-9) had 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the first half, but the Mules (5-7) scored three goals in the second half. UNE struck first in the game when Krissy Forman (Massapequa/Massapequa, N.Y.) scored off a direct kick at the 21:27 mark of the first half.
Colby tied it just 22 seconds later when O'Donnell broke in free on the right side off a pass from first-year midfielder Kaitlin Herlihy (Simsbury/Simsbury, Conn.).
UNE went ahead 2-1 at halftime after Kerry Weber (Franklin Academy/Malone, N.Y.) scored with 3:19 to the break.
O'Donnell tied it at 2-2 about nine minutes into the second half off a nice centering pass from senior Julie Brown (Montclair/Montclair, N.J.).
Colby got the game-winning goal at 63:10 off a penalty kick from senior Stephanie Hicks (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) after senior forward Lauren Gremelspacher (Loomis Chaffee/Granby, Conn.) was tripped in the penalty area. Gremelspacher then assisted on O'Donnell's final goal with about seven minutes remaining.
