Colby volleyball beats Bates, Bowdoin
WATERVILLE, MAINE --
Abbey Stella had 10 kills and four blocks to lead the Colby College volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Bates College in the first day of a New England Small College Athletic Conference Weekend tournament at Wadsworth Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Mules (17-6, 7-1 NESCAC) took a 30-26, 30-25, 30-20 win over Bates and also took a 30-23, 30-10, 30-20 win against Bowdoin. Colby can clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament with wins against Amherst and Tufts in league games Saturday.
Cait Cleaver added 11 kills and Kimberly Prescott had 29 assists in the win against Bates (17-7, 6-2). Alyssa Henley had nine kills and three blocks and Jennifer Radcliffe had 10 digs for the Mules.
Prescott broke her own school record with 11 service aces in a 3-game match win over Bowdoin. She also had 27 assists, while Alyssa Henley and Johanna Schroeder both had nine kills. Stella had five blocks and four kills, while Cleaver had eight kills and 10 digs.
The Mules play Amherst (15-2, 7-1) at 11 a.m. Saturday and then meet Tufts at 1 p.m.
