Colby men's hockey wins behind Walsh's goals
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Sophomore forward Patrick Walsh (Choate Rosemary Hall/Easton, Conn.) scored two goals in the second period, including the eventual game-winning goal, as the Colby College men's hockey team took a 4-1 victory over Babson College in the Mules' regular season home opener Friday night at Alfond Arena.
Babson (8-2-1), the number one scoring team in Division III (7.30 goals per game), managed just one goal against the Mules (7-1). Colby senior goalie J.D. Hadiaris (Philips Exeter/Saco, Maine) stopped 22 shots for the win.
The Beavers scored the only goal of the first period when Rob Harvey (Choate Rosemary Hall/Fredericton, NB) tallied 14 minutes into the period.
Colby exploded for three goals in the second period to put the game away. First-year forward Kevin Lyons (Walpole Stars/Canton, Mass.) tied the game off assists from Eric Molander (Milton Academy/Yarmouth, Maine) and Nick Bayley (Cambridge Winterhawks/Cambridge, Ont.).
Walsh got the next two goals, including the first one on an unassisted score 8:49 into the period. He then gave the Mules an insurance goal at 16:31 off assists from Lyons and Bayley.
Junior Brian Chisholm (St. Andrew's/King, Ont.) got the only goal of the third period from senior captain Brock Barton (Nepean Red Raiders/McLeods, NB).
Colby will play again at home on Saturday against Massachusetts-Boston at 4 p.m.
