Colby baseball goes 1-1 against Hamilton
FORT MYERS, Fla. --
Nick Miller (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) went 3-for-3 as Colby College fought back for a 13-10 victory over Hamilton College in the opening game of a baseball doubleheader Monday on the spring Florida trip.
The Mules (2-2) trailed 10-7, but scored a lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning and added four runs in the sixth to pull out the game. Colby scored the four runs in the sixth on just one hit.
Matt Gibson (Lakeview/Courtland, Ohio) drove in a pair of runs and earned the save for the Mules.
Jared Cushman (Cony/Augusta, Maine) and Eric Roy (Lisbon/Lisbon Falls, Maine) both went 1-for-3. Phil Geiger (Brunswick/Rye Brook, N.Y.) pitched the sixth inning and got the victory.
In the second game, Hamilton scored all five of its runs on six hits in the first inning. Andrew Jenkins (Gorham/Gorham, Maine) settled down after the first inning and did not allow a run the rest of the way in a complete game for Colby. Cushman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Gibson had a triple and Jon Vacca (St. Sebastians/Quincy, Mass.) doubled for the Mules.
Colby will play Middlebury on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a single game.
