Colby baseball settles for tie with Middlebury
FORT MYERS, Fla. --
Tyler Hales (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) pitched seven strong innings for the Colby College baseball team in a 2-2 tie with Middlebury College on Tuesday.
The game was originally scheduled for seven innings and was called after eight innings because of a three-hour time limit at the Gene Cusic Classic Tournament.
Hales, a first-year left-hander, allowed two runs before giving way to Brandon Royce (Cony/Augusta, Maine) in the eighth inning. The two pitchers gave up just six Middlebury hits.
Both teams scored on wild pitches in the seventh inning to send the contest into extra innings.
Matt Gibson (Lakeview/Courtland, Ohio) and Dan Deacon (Moses Brown/Rumford, R.I.) each doubled for the Mules (2-2-1). Nick Miller (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) and Jon Vacca (St. Sebastians/Quincy, Mass.) scored Colby's runs.
The Mules have the day off Wednesday before playing Thursday against MIT at noon and versus University of Chicago at 4 p.m.
