The Bowdoin baseball team received a strong effort from first-year Trevor Powers and improved to .500 on Friday afternoon with a 6-2 defeat of rival Colby. The Polar Bears are now 8-8 on the year, while the Mules fall to 4-4-1.

Colby touched up Powers early, as Nick Miller scored on a double play ball in the first to give the Mules a 1-0 edge. In the third inning, a double by Matt Gibson set up an rbi-single from Rodney Ames to improve the lead to 2-0.

But that was all Colby could muster, as Powers shut down the Mules for the remainder, allowing only two more hits after the third inning. Bowdoin's offense rallied in the fourth as back-to-back singles by Jimmy Shea and Kevin Bougie and a walk to John Clifford set up a two-run single by Tom McMahon to deadlock the game at two apiece.

Bowdoin would score four times in the seventh to take the contest as poor fielding by Colby set up a key run-scoring double by Shea and a two-run single by Clifford to give the Polar Bears a 6-2 lead. Powers (2-1) would go the distance, striking out five and walking none in his second complete game of the season. Dan Deacon allowed three earned runs in 6.1 innings for the White Mules in picking up the loss. Shea finished 3-5 with two runs scored to lead Bowdoin's offense.
