Colby baseball drops two to Williams
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Phil Michael (New York, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 and his sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning brought home the eventual game-winning run as the Williams College baseball team took an 8-7 win over Colby College at Coombs Field in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.
The Ephs (23-8) exploded for 12 runs in the first inning on the way to a 14-2 victory in the second game.
The first game was tied at 3-3 heading into the seventh inning. Williams scored four runs in the top of the seventh thanks mainly to a bases clearing double by Matt Marino (Concord, Mass.).
The Mules (8-20-1), though, fought back with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Rodney Ames (Cotuit, Mass.) had an RBI single and Colby took advantage of two errors by Williams.
Marino finished with a pair of hits and four RBI for the Ephs.
Tyler Hales (Lexington, Mass.) went 3-for-3 and scored two runs for Colby in the opener.
Jabe Bergeron (Chesterfield, N.H.) had two hits and two runs for Williams in the first inning of the second game. Joseph LaPaglia (Winter Springs, Fla.) went 3-for-4 and had a pair of runs.
Chad Saylor (St. Matthews, S.C.) had two hits for Colby in the nightcap.
