Crosman leads Colby men's basketball past Bates

WATERVILLE, Maine --

Senior forward Kevin Crosman (Morse/Bath, Maine) finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds and three assists as the Colby College men's basketball team fought back in the second half for a 63-55 victory over rival Bates College at Wadsworth Gymnasium on Saturday.

Colby (3-6) forced 19 Bates turnovers and held the Bobcats to 27 percent shooting from the field.

Bates (9-2) led 29-24 at halftime as both teams shot under 35 percent from the field. The Mules took their first lead with 16:54 to go in the game, but battled back-and-forth with the Bobcats over the next few minutes. Colby took the lead for good at 34-33 when Patrick McGowan (North Attleboro/North Attleboro, Mass.) hit a jumper with 13:26 left.

The Mules led 46-39 only to see Bates run off six straight points to cut the lead to 46-45 with 6:42 remaining. Colby, though, went on a 7-1 run from that point on to pull away.

McGowan finished with 12 of his 16 points in the second half and he also had six assists and five rebounds. Michael Westbrooks (Berkshire/Dublin, Ireland) had seven of his nine points in the second half. Jared Cushman (Cony/Augusta, Maine) struggled from the field, but did finish with seven rebounds.

Angelo Salvaggio (Cheverus/Portland, Maine) had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Bates. C.J. Neely (Oliver Ames/North Easton, Mass.) also had 12 points and added eight rebounds.

The Mules play at Bowdoin College at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
