Men's soccer earns third straight shutout
BIDDEFORD, MAINE --
The Colby College men's soccer team is 3-0 and has not allowed a goal this season after Wednesday's 4-0 non-conference victory over University of New England.
The Mules (3-0) have not allowed a goal in the first 270 minutes of the season. Senior goalkeeper Andrew Danzinger (Mercerburg Academy/Frederick, Md.) and sophomore Brian Davidson (Loomis Chaffee/Needham, Mass.) each played a half to combine on the shutout.
Colby scored three goals in the final 3 minutes, 3 seconds of the first half to take a 3-0 lead at the break. First-year forward Bobby Abendroth (BB&N/Natick, Mass.) scored off an assist from junior forward Mike Ungerer (Worcester Academy/Holden, Mass.) with 3:03 left.
With 1:33 to intermission, senior forward Jamie Yurek (Alexander Dawson/Boulder, Colo.) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Jamie Lue (Westminster School/Kingston, Jamaica).
Lue then got the third goal with just 20 seconds remaining off a pass from sophomore midfielder Ryan Boccuzzi (E.O. Smith/Storrs, Conn.). Yurek added the final goal of the game from an assist by sophomore midfielder Taylor Bemis (Concord Carlisle/Concord, Mass.).
Colby plays a New England Small College Athletic Conference game at Trinity on Saturday at 11 a.m.
