Bates women's soccer downs Colby
LEWISTON, MAINE --
Bates College scored the only two goals of the second half to pull away for a 5-3 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference women's soccer on Saturday.
After a wild first 15 minutes of the game in which Bates (1-1) took a 3-1 lead, Colby settled down and tied the game at 3-3 at halftime. The Bobcats got their two second-half goals in the first 17 minutes of play.
Senior captain Stephanie Hicks (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) had a goal and an assist for Colby (1-1). First-year players Kaitlin Herlihy (Simsbury/Simsbury, Conn.) and Kristin Schmidt (Lawrence Academy/Littleton, Mass.) had the other goals for the Mules.
Senior captain Christine O'Donnell had one assist and moved within one point of tying for the all-time scoring lead for the Colby women's soccer team. She has 33 goals and seven assists for 73 career points. Kim Waldron '99 had 74 points in her career at Colby.
Sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Riley (Thornton Academy/Saco, Maine) made 14 saves to keep the Mules in the game.
Katie Carroll had two goals to lead Bates.
