Colby men's hockey moves to 3-0 with win over Curry
BRUNSWICK, Maine --
The Colby College men's hockey team stayed unbeaten on the year with a 7-3 win over Curry College in the Bowdoin-Colby Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Mules improve to 3-0 and will host the U.S. Under-18 Team at Colby's Alfond Arena on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in an exhibition game. Curry falls to 4-2 and will face Bowdoin in the first game Sunday at Colby at 2 p.m.
Seven different Colby players scored goals in the game. The Mules have now scored seven goals in each of their first three contests.
Curry was first to get on the board at 18:14 of the first as Michael
Solesky put back a rebound to give the Colonels a 1-0 advantage. Curry
would hold the lead until 6:48 of the second when Kevin Lyons knotted
the game for Colby off assists from Jean Francois Auffrey and Nick Meintel.
Colby's Brian Chisholm would give the Mules the lead at
13:39 before Michael O'Sullivan tied the game at 2-2 at 14:56. Colby
would close out the period with a goal at 17:20 by Cory Ernst to take a
3-2 edge after two periods.
Colby's Sean O'Grady, Ross MacMillan, Joel Morash and Jay Goebel all scored in the third period as the Mules pulled away. MacMillan led all Colby players with one goal and two assists. Lyons and Chisholm each had one goal and one assist. Nick Bayley, the U.S. College Hockey Online Division III Player of the Week last week, Jake Bayley, Jared Gordon and captain Brock Barton all had assists.
Colby's Chris Ries made 18 saves for the victory.
