Colby field hockey holds off Bates
LEWISTON, MAINE --
Senior goaltender Carrie Morin (Cony/Augusta, Maine) stopped 12 shots in leading the Colby College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Bates College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
Junior midfielder Injoo Han (Montclair/Clifton, N.J.) and Lauren Smith (Thayer Academy/Cohasset, Mass.) had assists on both goals for Colby (2-0).
Bates had a 23-13 advantage in shots and a 14-8 margin in penalty corners, but Colby got out to a 2-0 lead at halftime. Sophomore midfielder Sarah Goodrich (Yarmouth/Yarmouth, Maine) scored first off assists from Han and Smith off a penalty corner. Sophomore Michaelyn Bortolotti (Hanover/Hanover, Mass.) got the eventual game-winning goal with about two minutes left to halftime off another penalty corner from Han and Smith.
Bates got its only goal about 13 minutes into the second half by junior Samara Khalique.
Colby will play host to Plymouth State in a non-league game Thursday, September 19, at 4 p.m.
