Middlebury field hockey tops Mules
WATERVILLE, MAINE --
Middlebury College, ranked 17th in the country, recovered from a slow start in taking a 2-0 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey on Saturday.
Colby (5-1, 2-1 NESCAC) dominated the opening 10 minutes of play and had a 5-0 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore forward Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) had two opportunities turned away by Middlebury goaltender Jo Opot (Mahindra United World/Nairobi, Kenya), who had five saves for the shutout.
First-year attacker Ashley Lyddane (Greenwich Academy/Greenwich, Conn.) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal with about seven minutes to halftime off an assist from Whitney Boglioli (St. GeorgeÍs/Colts Neck, N.J.).
Char Glessner (Pingree/Ipswich, Mass.) had the other goal for the Panthers (4-1, 3-0).
Colby will play host to Wesleyan next Saturday at 11 a.m. in a league game.
