Colby field hockey wins fifth straight game
FARMINGTON, MAINE --
The Colby College field hockey team is off to a familiar start to the season after Tuesday's 1-0 overtime win against University of Maine at Farmington in non-conference play.
The Mules, for the second straight season, are off to a 5-0 record. Colby has won three straight 1-0 games and has taken the last two contests in overtime.
Senior captain Lyndsay Peters (Freeport/Freeport, Maine) scored off her own rebound 10 minutes, 10 seconds into the first overtime period to give Colby the victory. Peters got her first goal of the season to go along with three assists.
Colby senior goaltender Carrie Morin (Cony/Augusta, Maine), who is playing collegiate field hockey for the first time this year, made five saves for her third straight shutout. She has not allowed a goal for 248 minutes since giving up a score to Bates on September 14. Morin has her goals-against average down to 0.38 and her save percentage up to .951.
Morin received some help from teammate Nikki Stadelman (North Allegheny/East Falmouth, Mass.) with less than two minutes to go in regulation. Stadelman, a first-year midfielder, made a defensive save when Maine-Farmington was pressuring the Mules with penalty corners.
Colby gets a tough test at home on Saturday at 11 a.m. against 17th-ranked Middlebury College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game.
