Colby men's hockey fights back for season opener win
HENNIKER, N.H. --
Sophomore forward Nick Bayley (Cambridge, Ontario) scored two goals and had four assists to power the Colby College men's hockey team to a 7-6 come-from-behind overtime victory over New England College on Friday night.
First-year forward Kevin Lyons (Canton, Mass.) scored 2:29 into the first overtime period off an assist from Patrick Walsh (Easton, Conn.) to give the Mules (1-0) the season opener win.
Bayley had tied the game with 2:03 remaining in regulation off assists from Cory Ernst (Bridgewater, NS) and Brian Chisholm (King, Ontario). Colby fought back from 2-0, 4-2 and 6-4 deficits in the game.
Lyons had two goals and one assist in his first collegiate game. Ernst and Walsh both had one goal and two assists, while senior Sean O'Grady (London, Ontario) had the other Mule goal.
Sophomore goaltender Chris Ries (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 29 saves for Colby, which plays at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Anselm.
