Maine Maritime gets overtime win over Mules

WATERVILLE, Maine --

Jed Johnson (Lawrence/Clinton, Maine) had 22 points and 14 rebounds as Maine Maritime fought back to force overtime and then went on for a 73-68 victory over Colby College in non-conference men's basketball Wednesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Maine Maritime (7-2) trailed by seven points with about five minutes left in regulation. The Mariners, though, forced the extra period and then outscored the Mules by an 11-6 margin in the extra session.

Matt Clement (Lawrence/Clinton, Maine) added 23 points and six rebounds despite missing much of the first half with foul trouble. Jon Newland (Marshwood/Eliot, Maine) added 13 points and nine assists for the winners.

Kevin Crosman (Morse/Bath, Maine) had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Colby (4-7). Jared Cushman (Cony/Augusta, Maine) added 15 points and Patrick McGowan (North Attleboro/North Attleboro, Mass.) had 12. Nick Ofiesh (Yorktown/Arlington, Va.) was 3-for-3 from 3-point range and had nine points for the Mules.

Maine Maritime's inside size advantage helped them to a 19-for-32 effort from the foul line. The Mules were 0-for-1 from the free-throw line after regulation and ended the game just 2-for-3.

Colby plays host to Amherst College on Friday at 7 p.m.
