Maine-Machias shoots past Colby men
WATERVILLE, Maine --
University of Maine-Machias shot 60 percent from the field, including a 64 percent effort in the second half, to take a 79-63 victory over Colby College in non-conference men's basketball Wednesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Gary Dussard (Scarborough, Ontario) had 25 points on 9-for-13 shooting for the Clippers (10-14). Phil Munroe (Scarborough, Ontario) was 6-for-6 from the field and had 12 points and seven rebounds. Joe Footer (Robbinston, Maine) added nine points for the winners.
Andrew Jenkins (Gorham, Maine) led Colby (6-15) with 18 points and five rebounds. Michael Westbrooks (Dublin, Ireland) had 13 points and 11 boards, while Jared Cushman (Augusta, Maine) finished with 13 points. Patrick McGowan (North Attleboro, Mass.) had 10
points and six assists.
The Mules fought from behind to take a 49-48 lead in the second half, but Maine-Machias went on a 14-0 run from that point on to go ahead 62-49.
Colby finishes out the regular season at home against Bowdoin at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The winner of that game gets the eighth and final seed in the upcoming New England Small College Athletic Conference Tournament.
