Colby men beat Bates for second time
LEWISTON, Maine --
The Colby College men's basketball team seems to have the right stuff against Bates College this season.
The Mules beat the Bobcats for the second time this season after Friday's 68-64 New England Small College Athletic Conference win. Colby improves to 6-13 overall and 2-5 in the league, while Bates lost for just the fourth time in falling to 16-4 and 4-2 in the conference.
Andrew Jenkins (Gorham, Maine), the Maine Basketball Coaches Association Rookie of the Week last week, had a game-high 15 points and six rebounds for the Mules. He was 3-for-4 from 3-point range.
Senior forward Kevin Crosman (Bath, Maine) added 13 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots for Colby. Patrick McGowan (North Attleboro, Mass.) had 10 points and four assists, while Jared Cushman (Augusta, Maine) had nine points and hit a key layup with 58 seconds left to put Colby up for good. Nick Loukes (Glenburn, Maine) had eight points and eight rebounds for the Mules and Nick Ofeish (Arlington, Va.) also had eight points.
The Mules trailed by as much as 13 points in the first half, but battled back for a 36-33 lead at the break. Colby was 4-for-9 from 3-point range in the second half and held Bates to 3-for-15 shooting from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes.
Angelo Salvaggio (Portland, Maine) had 14 points and 15 rebounds for the Bobcats.
Colby plays at Tufts University at 3 p.m. Saturday.
