Colby men's basketball falls in opener

STANDISH, Maine --

Patrick McGowan (No. Attleboro, Mass.) scored 15 points and Jared Cushman (Augusta, Me.) had 12 points for Colby College in a 67-50 loss to Husson College in the first round of the Maine Event Tournament at St. Joseph's College on Friday.

On Saturday, Husson College will go up against Saint Joseph's College in the championship game at 7:00 p.m. Colby will face Southern Maine in the consolation game at 5:00 p.m.

Randy Fletcher (Temple Hills, MD) had 17 points and Ryan Rivera (Bradford, Me.) 13 for Husson.

Saint Joseph's College inside game gave Southern Maine's interior defense a lesson in basketball. CJ. Vose (Yarmouth, Me.) had 23 points and eight rebounds and Samuel Olivero (Cervasca, Italy) added 18 points and eight rebounds, as the Monks pulled out an 88-86 victory in-state rival Southern Maine in the opening round of the Maine Event Tip-off Tournament at the Harold Alfond Center.
