Men's basketball tops Southern Maine
STANDISH, Maine --
Sophomore guard Patrick McGowan (No. Attleboro/Attleboro, Mass.) finished with 33 points and 10 rebounds in lifting the Colby College men's basketball team to a 103-90 win over Southern Maine in the consolation game of the Maine Event Tournament on Saturday.
McGowan, who made the all-tournament team for Colby, shot 12-for-17 from the field and was 6-for-9 from 3-point range.
Sophomore Jared Cushman (Cony/Augusta, Maine) added 18 points and six assists for Colby (1-1). First-year forward Michael Westbrooks (Berkshire/Dublin, Ireland) had 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while senior forward Kevin Crosman (Morse/Bath, Maine) had 13 points and eight rebounds. Junior captain Nick Loukes (Bangor/Glenburn, Maine) had 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting and had eight rebounds.
The Mules led 47-43 at halftime and then put up 56 points in the second half.
Colby will have its home opener against a good Babson College squad Tuesday at 4 p.m.
