Colby men's hockey downs Conn College

NEW LONDON, Conn. --

The Colby College Mules (10-3, 8-2) tallied two third period goals 1:17 apart to open up a three goal lead en route to a 4-2 victory over NESCAC foe Connecticut College (4-9-1, 2-7-1) at Dayton Arena Friday night.

Sophomore Barry Brown (Souris, PEI) put in the game-winner at 4:48 of the final period for the visitors. Cory Ernst (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) added two assists for the visiting Mules. David Moccia (Malvern, PA) and Jay Montecalvo (Ipswich, MA) each scored for Connecticut College.

J.D Hadiaris (Saco, ME) made 21 saves in net for Colby. Steve Oven (Vestal, NY) had 33 stops for the Camels.

After Colby opened the score, Moccia added a goal for the Camels late in the first and the teams went to the intermission in a 1-1 tie. Kevin Lyons (Canton, MA) scored the only goal of the middle period, putting Colby on top 2-1 after two periods.

In the third period, Colby got the game-winner from Brown at 4:48 and an insurance score from Ross MacMillan (Charlottetown, PEI) to put the game away. Montecalvo added a goal for the Camels at the 15:08 mark of the third but Hadiaris kept the Camels off the board in the closing minutes.

Colby will play at Tufts on Saturday at 4 p.m., while Connecticut College will host Bowdoin College at 3:00 pm tomorrow afternoon.
