Ries helps Colby men's hockey beat No. 9 Trinity

WATERVILLE, Maine --

Colby College goalie Chris Ries (Taft School/Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped 31 shots in lifting the 14th-ranked Mules to a 3-1 victory over ninth-ranked Trinity College at Alfond Arena on Saturday.

Colby improved to 12-3-1 overall after a weekend sweep of Trinity and Wesleyan. The Bantams fell to 11-4-2 after also losing to Bowdoin on Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, senior captain Brock Barton (Nepean Red Raiders/McLeods, N.B.) put Colby up to stay with a goal 3:03 into the second period off assists from Ross MacMillan (Upper Canada College/Charlottetown, PEI) and Joel Morash (Upper Canada College/Liverpool, N.S.).

Sophomore forward Cory Ernst (Upper Canada College/Bridgewater, N.S.) tallied unassisted at 16:50 of the second period for what turned out to be the game-winning goal for the Mules.

Trinity struck back just 29 seconds later when Dan Gyllstrom (Junior Bruins/Hudson, Mass.) tallied at 17:19.

Brian Chisholm (St. Andrew's College/King, Ont.) gave the Mules an insurance goal 12:28 into the third period.
