Middlebury men's hockey stops Colby, 5-1
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Middlebury College scored the final five goals of the game in taking a 5-1 victory over Colby College in a battle of nationally-ranked men's hockey teams at Alfond Arena on Friday night.
Middlebury, ranked 11th in Division III, improved to 8-3 with the win and will play at Bowdoin on Saturday. Colby, ranked 12th in the country, fell to 8-2.
After a scoreless first period, Colby's Sean O'Grady (London Nationals/London, Ont.) scored a shorthanded goal off an assist from Jean Francois Auffrey (St. Paul's School/Dieppe, N.B.) 3:28 into the second period.
Middlebury went up 2-1 after two periods on goals by Adam Foote (Hotchkiss/New Hartford, N.Y.) and Kevin Cooper (New Hampton/Mississauga, Ont.).
Shady Young (Hill School/Bethlehem, Pa.) gave the Panthers an insurance goal at 10:24 of the third period to take a 3-1 lead.
Colby will play again at home on Saturday against Williams College at 4 p.m.
