No. 9 Plattsburgh beats No. 11 Colby in men's hockey
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Plattsburgh State scored just 45 seconds into the game and held the lead the rest of the way in taking a 5-3 victory over Colby College in men's hockey Tuesday at Alfond Arena.
Rob Retter (Thornhill Rattlers/Toronto, Ontario) and Jeff Hopkins (Couchiching Terriers/Phelpston, Ontario) each had two goals and one assist to lead ninth-ranked Plattsburgh (10-4-3), which led 2-1 after the first period and 5-2 after two periods.
Colby's Nick Meintel (North Yarmouth/Yarmouth, Maine) tallied with 47 seconds left in the first period to cut Plattsburgh's lead to 2-1. However, the Cardinals never let 11th-ranked Colby (9-3) tie the game.
Tony Seariac had 33 saves for Plattsburgh, which was outshot 36-22 in the game by the Mules.
Ross MacMillan (Upper Canada College/Charlottetown, PEI) and Todd O'Hara (Taft School/Minneapolis, Minn.) had Colby's other goals.
The Mules will play at Connecticut College this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
