Williams tops Colby in Florida

NEWPORT RICHEY, Fla. --

Williams College broke open a tight game with three goals in the third quarter on the way to a 9-5 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Wednesday night in Florida.

Colby, ranked 20th in the country, fell to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the league. Williams is 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

The game was delayed three times when the lights went out at the field in Florida. Each time it took about 20 minutes to get the lights restarted.

Mike Haimes (Greenwich/Old Greenwich, Conn.) had two goals to lead Colby. Troy Lieberman (Andover/Andover, Mass.), Matt Roland (Somers/Somers, Conn.) and Joshua Cleaver (Unionville/Kennett Square, Pa.) also had goals.

Matthew LaPaglia (Delbarton/Upper Montclair, N.J.) had 19 saves for Colby.

Goals-Assists (Colby only): Mike Haimes 2-0, Troy Lieberman 1-0, Matt Roland 1-0, Joshua Cleaver 1-0, Barron Butler 0-1.
