Amherst men's lacrosse downs Colby
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Amherst College darted out to a 9-3 halftime lead and then held on in the second half to take an 11-9 victory over 20th-ranked Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's lacrosse Saturday at Seaverns Field.
The Lord Jeffs (4-1, 3-0 NESCAC) led 4-2 after the first quarter and then exploded for five goals in the second period.
Matt Margolis (Short Hills, N.J.) and Chris Condlin (Baltimore, Md.) each had three goals for Amherst. Andrew Syfu (Hobart, Ind.) added four assists, while Alex Castertano (Millbrook, N.Y.) had two goals and one assist.
Colby (1-3, 0-3) received three goals and one assist from Barron Butler (Marblehead, Mass.). Joshua Cleaver (Kennett Square, Pa.) had two goals and Pete Lagos (Bow, N.H.) had one goal and one assist.
Amherst goaltender Cushing Donelan (Noroton, Conn.) and Colby keeper Matthew LaPaglia (Upper Montclair, N.J.) each had 13 stops.
Colby plays at Bates this Wednesday at 4 p.m.
