Conn College earns men's lacrosse win over Mules

NEW LONDON, Conn. --

Senior attacker Kevin Burke (Beverly, MA) erupted for five goals Saturday afternoon, leading Connecticut College (7-4, 4-3) to a 9-3 victory over Colby College (3-7, 0-7) in NESCAC lacrosse action.

Dan Hawxhurst (Huntington Station, NY) added two goals and freshman Brad Luckhardt (Needham, MA) had two assists for the winning side.

Eric Seidel (Durham, NH) had two goals, and Barron Butler had a goal and two assists for the Mules. Topher Grossman (Villanova, PA) made 13 saves in net for the Camels. Matthew Lapaglia (Upper Montclair, NJ) had 15 stops for Colby.

The Camels jumped on the Mules for three goals in the first 6:10 of the contest. Mike Hasenauer (Weston, CT) got things rolling, taking a feed from Luckhardt at 2:15 for his 14th goal of the year. Jesse Wiliams (Concord, MA) set up the second goal, feeding Kevin Burke for the first of his five scores at 4:31. Less than two minutes later, Luckhardt fed Burke for the third goal of the first quarter and the Camels were in complete control.

With Connecticut College leading 4-1 at the break, Colby gained some momentum on the second goal of the day from Eric Seidel. The goal cut the Camels lead to two just four minutes into the second half.

In need of offense, the Camels turned to Burke for production and the senior responded in a big way. Burke notched his third goal of the afternoon at 7:25 of the third, pushing the Camels lead to three at 5-2. Just 1:31 later, Burke netted his fourth goal on a put-back of a Hasenauer bid.

In the fourth, Burke added his fifth score at 2:23 and the Camels added to more goals to close out the 9-3 victory.
