Colby men's soccer shuts out Bates
LEWISTON, MAINE --
Sophomore back Brian Kelly (Milford/Milford, Mass.) scored the only goal of the game in the first half as the Colby College men's soccer team posted its second straight shutout with a 1-0 victory over Bates College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Saturday.
The Mules are 2-0 and have not allowed a goal in 180 minutes. Colby started the season with a 7-0 victory over Thomas College.
Kelly scored 27 minutes, 27 seconds into the first half after he scored on a loose ball in front of the net. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Boccuzzi (E.O. Smith/Storrs, Conn.) had his corner kick knocked around until Kelly put the ball in the back of the net.
Bates had a 13-7 advantage in shots while trying to get the equalizer. Colby senior goalkeeper Andrew Danzinger (Mercerburg Academy/Frederick, Md.) made four saves for the shutout.
Colby will play at University of New England on Wednesday, September 18, at 4 p.m.
