Men's tennis team competes at Wallach Tournament
LEWISTON, MAINE --
Steen Sehnert (Summit/Summit, N.J.) and Kevin Yardi (Santa Barbara/Santa Barbara, Calif.) each made it to quarterfinal play in singles and doubles for the Colby College men's tennis team Sunday in the Wallach Tournament at Bates College.
Sehnert took a 6-3, 6-2 victory over David Meyer of Bates in 'C' singles opening round play and then lost a tough match to Tristan Beach of Bates in the quarterfinals. Sehnert won 7-6 (5) in a tiebreaker in the first set, but then lost 6-2 in the second set and fell 10-2 in a tiebreaker that decided the match.
Yardi, in his opening round match, took a 6-4, 5-7, (10-8) win against Adam Schiff of Brandeis. Yardi then lost 6-1, 6-3 to Sam Duvall of Bates in the quarterfinals of 'B' singles.
In 'A' doubles, Colby first-year player Ben Crane (Blake School/Edina, Minn.) and sophomore Rhett Silverstein (Mendam/Chester, N.J.) advanced past the opening round with a 9-7 win against Connecticut College's Dan Greenblatt and Nick Sheikh. Crane and Silverstein then lost 8-0 to Bates' Meyer and Duvall in the quarterfinals.
Seniors Rich Cook (Lincoln-Sudbury/Sudbury, Mass.) and John McManigal (Santa Barbara/Santa Barbara, Calif.) also advanced in 'A' doubles with an 8-2 win against Tufts' Jon Rubenstein and Ben Alexander. The Colby pair then lost 8-1 to Colin Joyner and Mick Maclean of Bowdoin in a quarterfinal match.
