Colby men's tennis wins two matches
HILTON HEAD, S.C. --
John McManigal (Santa Barbara/Santa Barbara, Calif.) went to a tiebreaker in all three sets in pulling out a big victory for the Colby College men's tennis team in a 4-3 victory over Carleton College on Wednesday.
McManigal won 7-6 (3), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5) at first singles for the Mules (3-3), who are 3-0 on their trip to South Carolina. Steen Sehnert (Summit/Summit, N.J.) and Ben Crane (Blake School/Edina, Minn.) also won singles matches for Colby.
The Mules pulled out two of the three doubles matches to earn the one point for doubles play. Sehnert and Kevin Yardi (Santa Barbara/Santa Barbara, Calif.) won 9-8 at first doubles. Marc Kassin (Mt. Greylock/Williamstown, Mass.) and John Fallon (Nashoba/Northboro, Mass.) took an 8-6 win at third doubles.
On Tuesday, Colby took a 5-2 victory over Luther College behind a big victory from Rich Cook (Lincoln-Sudbury/Sudbury, Mass.), who won a tiebreaker in place of a third set at fourth singles.
