Colby men's tennis competes at NESCAC meet
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --
Senior Rich Cook (Sudbury, Mass.) advanced to quarterfinal play in singles and doubles for the Colby College men's tennis team at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championships this past weekend.
The Mules placed eighth out of 11 teams with six points.
Cook took a 7-5, 6-2 win over Hamilton's Brad Polan in the first round of fourth singles before falling in the quarterfinals. Cook and teammate John Fallon (Northboro, Mass.) joined forces to beat a team from Connecticut College in the first round of third doubles play. Cook and Fallon then lost to a team from Williams in the quarterfinals.
Tim Stenovec (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) won his first round match against Hamilton's Frederick Volp by a 6-0, 6-3 final at fifth singles and then lost in straight sets to a player from Williams in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Ben Crane (Edina, Minn.) received a first round bye at sixth singles and then fell in the quarterfinals. Stenovec and Crane had a bye in the first round of second doubles and then lost to a Trinity team in the quarters.
Steen Sehnert (Summit, N.J.) won his first match at third singles before losing in the quarterfinal round.
